Texas Lesson Study Facilitator



Job Goal: Empowers teachers to self-direct their professional growth by engaging in the Texas Lesson Study (TXLS) process. (Lesson Study is a job-embedded PLC process in which teachers engage in cycles of continuous improvement. Working collaboratively to plan, practice, and reflect, teachers develop deep and lasting knowledge of content and pedagogy). TXLS work involves coordinating and implementing the TXLS program with fidelity and reporting progress and outcomes to the Texas Education Agency. Specialist will work under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and interdependent judgement.

Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Advanced degree in education preferred.
  • Current Texas teaching certificate.
  • Requires a minimum of three (3) years teaching experience with a proven track record of measurable student achievement.
  • Recent classroom or campus experience preferred.
  • Experience leading professional development and/or team of teachers (e.g., grade level or content chair) preferred.
  • Experience implementing new initiatives or systems preferred.
  • An advanced degree as described may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Special Knowledge & Skills
  • Lesson Study professional development (or a willingness to be trained on this program).
  • Responsibilities and challenges facing teachers in today's classrooms.
  • Curriculum planning and assessment.
  • Research methods.
  • Data-driven instructional practices.
  • Designing rigorous, standard-based lessons and measuring student understanding and progress.
  • Coordinating meetings, prioritizing work, and collaborating with diverse individuals or groups.
  • Tracking progress.
  • Analytical thinking.
  • Using computer applications including Google apps and Microsoft Office.
  • Basic video recording and editing;  Copy editing.

Major Responsibilities
  • Foster effective working relationships with a variety of individuals and groups, internal and external to the ESC.
  • Implement new programs with fidelity.
  • Encourage and support those you work with.
  • Develop an action plan and execute effectively on tasks.
  • Maintain and retrieve critical relevant information so that it is readily available when needed.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and implement effective solutions.

Term of Employment
  • Commensurate with experience.

Equipment Used
  • Standard office equipment, including personal computer and peripherals.
  • Personal computer, distance learning lab, presentation equipment (digital projector, speaker system), standard office equipment.

Working Conditions
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Repetitive hand motions, including frequent keyboarding and use of a mouse; occasional reaching.
  • Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
  • Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours.
  • Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
