School Success Specialist
Job Goal:
School Success Specialists are full time positions
that coordinate all school improvement efforts for districts and campuses
implementing state and/or federal accountability interventions through the
Effective Schools Framework in partnership with the Texas Education Agency. Additionally,
ESC 6 School Success Specialists work with districts and campuses seeking to
elevate their current success by fine-tuning the systems and processes already
in place to support strategic improvement and growth.

- Campus/district leadership level experience required
Special Knowledge & Skills:
- Campus/district level administrative experience a must for this position. Individuals that have experience leading campuses or school districts that exhibited high academic performance or have led a turnaround campus are best suited for the position for ESC School Success Specialist.
- Recent experience at the campus/district leadership level is preferred.
- Possess leadership skills required to lead the development of a collaborative approach to school improvement.
- Possess expertise in planning, implementing, and managing improvement efforts at the campus/district level.
- Has a full understanding of the state accountability system as well as the federal system of accountability.
- Has the expertise needed to stay abreast of any changes in either the state or federal accountability systems.
- Has the ability to develop and lead staff development for a variety of groups.
- Accepts the responsibility of being accountable for the success of campuses/districts in school improvement.
- Has the ability to work with adult learners.
- Has recent campus/district leadership and management experience.
- Is a change agent that can work with groups with divergent thinking.
- Maintains results-orientation.
- Skilled in the use of data to improve academic performance.
- Practices strong communication skills.
- Operates from a sense of urgency in implementing the school improvement efforts required.
- Has the ability to provide positive and critical feedback to all involved.
- Is willing to attend many meetings related to school improvement across the region.
- Has the flexibility to make changes to plans identified as being less efficient.
- Knows how to recognize and celebrate success.
Major Responsibilities:
- Critically evaluate and provide feedback on targeted improvement, turnaround plans, and mid-year funding reports for alignment to the Effective School Framework (ESF)
- Communicate and influence leaders by providing effective feedback related to targeted improvement and turnaround plans that result in schools taking action toward school improvement.
- Provide high-quality customer service to external stakeholders (DCSIs and other primary campus contacts, principals, etc.) by providing valuable feedback, guidance, and support in navigating the school improvement process.
- Ensure approved targeted improvement and turnaround plans result in achievement of school accountability scores.
- Participates in all meetings, training, and other sessions involving school improvement in their assigned schools.
- Assist in the development of specific capacity building services based on identified campus needs.
- Conduct ESF (Effective School Framework) Diagnostics for campuses.
- Serve as a Texas Instructional Leadership coach.
- Monitors progress and effectiveness of school improvement efforts across the Region.
Terms of Employment: Commensurate with experience
Equipment Used:
- Standard Office equipment, including personal computer and peripherals.
- Personal computer, distance learning lab, presentation equipment (digital projector, speaker system), standard office equipment.
Working Conditions:
- Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
- Motion: Repetitive hand motions, including frequent keyboarding and use of a mouse; occasional reaching.
- Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
- Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours.
- Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
