ESC6 PAYROLL SPECIALIST

Goal: Responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of Region
6 ESC payroll using ASCENDER. This role maintains payroll records, ensures
compliance with federal and state regulations, and collaborates with HR and
Finance to support the organization’s compensation and reporting needs.

- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field (preferred).
- 2 years of payroll processing experience (preferred)
- Understanding of payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and data entry
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Knowledge of basic payroll accounting procedures
- Ability to maintain accurate and auditable records
- Ability to use software to create spreadsheets, databases, and do word processing
- Ability to work with numbers in an accurate and rapid manner to meet established deadlines
- Knowledge of ASCENDER payroll software (preferred)
- Process monthly payroll accurately and on schedule according to policies and procedures.
- Review and verify timekeeping records, employee status changes, and deductions.
- Receive and audit time sheets for all ESC6 employees.
- Calculate employee wages, salaries, hours worked, overtime pay, and determine withholdings, deductions, and net pay.
- Balance payroll earnings and deductions; initiate related transfers of funds and deposits.
- Maintain payroll registers, employee payroll information, and other original documentation in an orderly and accurate manner in accordance with state, federal, and ESC requirements.
- Maintain and update payroll information including new hires, terminations, and changes in pay rates.
- Submit all TRS reports
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal payroll laws and regulations.
- Prepare and submit payroll tax reports and filings (e.g., federal, state, unemployment, and other required reports).
- Reconcile benefits monthly
- Generate and distribute payroll reports to leadership and auditors as needed.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and benefits.
- Prepare reports, memos, emails, and other documents as needed
- Handle sensitive information in a confident manner
- Support other departments as required Other duties as may be assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
- Motion: Repetitive hand motions, including frequent keyboarding and use of a mouse; occasional reaching
- Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
- Environment: Self-discipline that will enable continuous learning, be able to multi-task with frequent interruptions and with minimal supervision, and maintain emotional control under stress. Prolonged and irregular work hours on occasion
