PART-TIME ADULT EDUCATION INSTRUCTOR - ESL
Job Goal: To
support adults who are English language learners in acquiring basic skills, high
school equivalency, or preparing them for college or career training. To plan
and deliver direct instruction to include curriculum development and lesson
planning. This includes serving the learner holistically by assessing
individual needs and tailoring instruction.

Morning and Evening positions available in the following areas:
Terms of Employment:
$24.00 an hour
Equipment Used:
Standard office equipment, including personal computer and peripherals.
Working Conditions:
Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. ·
Motion: Repetitive hand motions, including frequent keyboarding and use of a mouse; occasional reaching. ·
Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds). ·
Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours.
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Certification in State approved assessment utilized by Adult Education and Literacy preferred
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in Adult Education
Special Knowledge & Skills:
- Knowledge of Adult Education and Literacy program regulations, policies and procedures.
- Familiar with various community resources that are beneficial to the adult education population.
- Proficient in classroom management and work effectively with students, faculty, administrators and staff in the AEL program.
- Must develop a thorough knowledge of the Adult Education policies and procedures and have the ability to use that information in various situations.
- Work independently under pressure.
Major Responsibilities:
- Reports directly to the Bryan Adult Learning Center Director or Assistant Director.
- Applies researched-based instructional practices that incorporate the use of computers and other technologies.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies and tools appropriate to the needs of the student.
- Uses lesson plans that integrate instruction across content areas.
- Provides continuous feedback and adjusts instruction to maximize student learning.
- Integrates work-, family- and community-related activities into instruction.
- Administers or interprets appropriate assessments.
- Plans learning experiences that are interactive and relevant to workplace environment.
- Uses formal and informal assessment data to monitor and document student progress.
- Collects and manages accurate data for program improvement and accountability.
- Participates in the retention and follow-up of students.
- Responsible for monitoring student progress and attendance.
- Maintains student records.
- Assesses students’ needs and goals and promotes programs in community.
- Attends required professional development activities.
- Use technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.
- Perform other duties as assigned
