SAFETY EDUCATION AND TRAINING SPECIALIST
Job Goal: To support the ESC mission in implementation of Safety Education and Training programs. Provide region-wide programs that educate students, bus drivers, teachers, and administrators in areas of transportation and school safety.

Qualifications
- Current Class B Commercial Driver's License with passenger (P) and school bus (S) endorsement (Required)
- Current Texas School Bus Driver Training Certification (Preferred)
- Minimum three years School Bus Safety Training and School Transportation experience
- Minimum two years’ experience driving a CMV requiring a CDL
- Minimum two years’ experience as a Behind the Wheel CMV instructor.
- Meets all applicable State qualification requirements for CMV instructor.
- Third Party Commercial Driver’s License examiner certification (Preferred)

- Knowledgeable in Entry Level Driver Training
- Ability to move setup, operate and maintain school bus simulator
- Ability to operate maintenance equipment and lift heavy items Must have a safe driving record
- Collaborate closely with School Transportation Directors to identify district-specific training needs, ensuring that School Bus Safety Training 101 workshops are aligned with real-world operational challenges and include applicable safety scenarios, current legislation, and effective behavior management
- Development and implementation of SB 101 workshops
- Organize and facilitate both in-person and virtual training sessions, recruiting qualified instructors as needed and ensuring all transportation personnel receive consistent instruction using state-approved simulation tools and customized resource
- Maintain school bus simulator trailer and software unit
- Teach assigned bus driver 20-Hour Certification and 8-Hour Re-Certification courses and maintain course records
- Manage the promotion, scheduling, and delivery of certification courses across Region 6, including registration oversight, waitlist management, and post-course follow-up
- Lead the implementation and facilitation of Transportation Department Audits and Route Audits, assisting districts in identifying operational gaps, routing inefficiencies, and compliance risks
- Assist in marketing all Safety Education and Training Programs to school districts
- Assist in managing inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and order additional supplies as needed
- Develop and distribute instructional materials such as Texas CDL Pre-Trip Inspection scripts, ELDT curriculum guides, classroom handouts, and PowerPoint presentations used across multiple training formats
- Provide technical assistance and subject matter expertise to districts regarding Commercial Driver License (CDL) compliance, Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT), extreme student behavior management, special needs securement procedures, and emergency protocols
- Perform additional duties as assigned, including cross-agency coordination, legislative research, and program innovation in support of regional and statewide safety goal
