SPECIAL EDUCATION LOW INCIDENCE SPECIALIST



Job Goal:

To provide leadership, training, and technical assistance in the area of special education for low incidence with an emphasis on increasing student achievement.

Education:

  • Master's degree in special education or a related field
Certification:
  • Special Education Certification

Special Knowledge and Skills:
  • A high degree of professionalism, including strong public relations skills
  • Ability to establish rapport and work in collaboration with public school and ESC personnel
  • Presentation skills; ability to provide professional development to educators
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks with minimal supervision• Ability to use technology effectively
  • Willingness to travel• Experience:• Minimum five years of teaching experience
  • Experience/expertise working with low incidence and knowledge of classroom management preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Provide technical assistance and training to the local school district personnel in developing and improving programs for students identified as low incident
  • Provide training and technical assistance to LEAs 
  • Provide information to directors and other personnel concerning evidenced-based practices and other topics related to students identified as having low incidence
  • Provide technical assistance and training to LEAs to increase an inclusive environment for students identified as low incidence
  • Manage/market/oversee the PLUSS classroom at Region 6
  • Fulfill Network activities/responsibilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Standard office equipment, including personal computer and peripherals

Working Conditions
  • Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
  • Repetitive hand motions, including frequent keyboarding and use of a mouse; occasional reaching
  • Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
  • May work prolonged or irregular hours
  • Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
