Adult Education Component Director



Job GoalJob Goal: Coordinate grant deliverables for the Adult Education Department to include the Gulf Coast Workforce Board Consortium and Brazos Valley Council of Government. Provide training as needed for AED and AEL staff. Provide compliance support and technical assistance as needed in the GCWB AEL program.  Work in collaboration with the Business Office related to all aspects of the AED programs.

Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in education or related field
  • Texas Teaching Certificate
  • Minimum five years teaching experience preferred
  • Mid-Management Certificate preferred

  • Current knowledge of ABE, GED, ESL curriculum materials, and the ability to recruit and train Adult Ed. students, teachers and aides for all program levels
  • Current knowledge of Texas Workforce Commission program and community resources 
  • Knowledge of Adult Education State and Federal objectives
  • Current knowledge of ABE and ESL program requirements
  • Experience with related TWC and AEL Programs
Major Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate the local recruitment and instruction of adult education students, organization of classes, the counseling of students, and in-service training activities for adult education programs
  • Requisition equipment, materials, and supplies; maintain inventory control and make appropriate distribution of materials to teachers in participating districts and Workforce Board areas
  • Perform routine functions such as collecting and checking monthly and annual reports, assembling educational materials for distribution, reviewing required forms for accuracy and completeness, and assist in maintaining records required by ESC, TEA, TWC or other state agencies
  • Write announcements, newsletters, and advertising materials; prepare letters, posters, leaflets, and other recruitment materials for submission to local media and general distribution to appropriate population. (all written materials to be approved by program director prior to distribution)
  • Collection and compilation of local staff payroll information, preparation of purchase orders, and maintenance of required fiscal and attendance records
  • Coordinate the Adult Education management information system TEAMS and disseminate TEAMS data
  • Expedite all required reports to ESC, TEA, TWC, or other state agencies
  • Supervise staff and manage Pearson VUE testing lab
  • Oversee all aspects of TxCHSE testing
  • Other duties as may be assigned by Deputy Director
  • Oversee the implementation of professional development events for all programs as needed
  • Follow guidelines and reporting deadlines provided by TWC, GCWB, BVCOG and ESC

Terms of Employment: Commensurate with experience

Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including personal computer and peripherals

Working Conditions:
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Repetitive hand motions, including frequent keyboarding and use of a mouse; occasional reaching.
  • Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
  • Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours.
  • Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
