Adult Education Career and Transition Specialist



JOB GOAL
The AEL Career and Transition Specialist will work directly in the Gulf Coast Workforce Board area with all AEL providers, Region 6 Program Assistants, HGAC PD Coordinator and Career Navigators to assist in the implementation and completion of all contractual obligations and deliverables as an AEL sub-contractor to Houston Galveston Area Council.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field
  • Certified in Adult Education assessments pertinent to program
  • Endorsement of English as a Second Language or Bilingual Education preferred
  • Minimum five years teaching experience required
  • Minimum five years’ experience in providing Professional Development in Adult Education required
Special Knowledge & Skills
  • Certified in at least two areas of TOT content in Adult Education required
  • Knowledge of AALPD training quality standards
  • Ability to develop and deliver professional development content related to Adult Education
  • Knowledge of Texas Workforce Commission
  • Proficient computer skills, specifically Google programs, Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office
  • Professional on all levels
  • Ability to meet schedules and time lines
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with minimum supervision
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to use technology effectively
  • Current Knowledge of ABE, GED, ESL curriculum materials, and the ability to recruit and train adult education students, teachers and aides for all program levels
  • Knowledge of Adult Education State and Federal objectives
  • Knowledge of the impact student performance has on the program performance objectives
  • Current knowledge of ABE and ESL program requirements
  • Current knowledge of TWC programs and community resources
Major Responsibilities
  • Serve as the point of contact for workforce personnel, AEL providers and career navigators in all aspects related to Adult Education and Literacy career pathways
  • Review current career models being implemented within the HGAC Consortium
  • Evaluate each AEL provider’s career pathways and/or correctional programs and provide recommendations
  • Provide training in career pathways, transitions and/or correctional implementation at each program as needed;
  • Serve as the correctional and employer liaison for Region 6
  • Conduct regular program visits to evaluate program’s progress in the areas of career pathways, transitions and/or corrections
  • Provide contextualized training for all programs based on evaluations and needs assessments
  • Provide, facilitate, or recommend training in the implementation of Distance Learning, Digital Literacy, Technology Integration and other TWC initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
