Child Nutrition Specialist
JOB GOAL:
Provide professional development and technical assistance to Contracting Entities (CEs) according to the Texas Department of Agriculture contract with the ESC. Collaborate with CEs to develop and implement nutrition programs that are compliant with Texas Department of Agriculture guidelines.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Institutional Management, Food Service, Business, Nutrition, Family and Consumer Science, Public Health, Education, or related field.
Certifications:
Certifications as required by the Texas Department of Agriculture
Special Knowledge and Skills
• High degree of professionalism including strong organizational, communication, and public relations skills,
• Ability to establish rapport and work in collaboration with public school, ESC and state personnel
• Ability to prepare and provide professional development to educators of all levels
• Ability to maintain confidentiality with internal and external student and LEA information
• Knowledge of state and federal guidelines for TDA nutrition programs and funding
• Detail-oriented and able to submit required documentation error-free and on time
• Ability to work on multiple tasks effectively with minimal supervision
• Ability to utilize current technology platforms and software
Experience
• Three years of experience in management of school or institutional food service operations, preferred
• Prior experience as a Child Nutrition Director, preferred
• Three years of experience training adults, preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties
General
• Respond to clients' needs in a courteous and timely manner with current, accurate information.
• Work on multiple tasks effectively with minimal supervision.
• Utilize distance learning technologies for meetings/technical assistance/trainings
• Follow all federal, state, and ESC guidelines, policies, and procedures.
• Develop and maintain positive, professional relationships within the ESC, with LEAs, TDA contacts, and any partner organizations.
• Maintain all internal and external required program paperwork and program documentation
• Manage calendars to ensure all required meetings and trainings are attended and provided.
• Submit internal and external required paperwork and program documentation by requested deadlines.
• Maintain confidentiality with internal and external student and LEA information
• Other duties as may be assigned
Major Responsibilities under TDA Contract
• Be familiar with all requirements under the contract
• Plan, create, and provide regional trainings in all areas of program operations for Child Nutrition Program Staff as required by the contract
• Provide training and technical assistance to Contracting Entities (CEs) as described in the Statement of Work – Exhibit A of TDA contract
• Collaborate with other ESC regions to ensure equitable availability of training specialists across the state for all training events
• Collaborate with other regions to facilitate the development and implementation of statewide training
• Train on Administrative Reviews for all ESC Specialists/Review training schedule to include ESC/TDA AR Review
• Attend required state staff meetings scheduled by TDA
• Attend and participate in special committees and workgroups as directed by TDA
• Travel to CEs for in-person visits weekly
• Report all technical assistance and training information to TDA as required
• Maintain documentation for TDA review and audit purposes
• Perform additional duties as assigned by TDA
