To provide students with an appropriate, high-quality education in English language arts and literature that complies with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and district standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction: Develop and implement lesson plans that meet the district's curriculum requirements, focusing on reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
Literacy Focus: Teach literature analysis, composition, grammar, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills.
Assessment: Administer tests and assessments (both formative and summative) to evaluate student progress and maintain accurate records.
Classroom Management: Create a positive, safe, and orderly classroom environment conducive to learning.
Student Support: Work with individual students to provide extra help or specialized instruction for those with special needs, including English Learners (EL) and gifted students.
Collaboration: Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and department meetings to analyze data and improve curriculum.
Communication: Maintain regular communication with parents regarding student performance, including report cards and conferences.

- Certification: Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for English Language Arts and Reading (ELAR) at the appropriate level.
- ESL Certification: Often required or preferred to support diverse learners in compliance with state regulations.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
- Knowledge: Deep understanding of subject matter (literature, composition, language arts) and familiarity with Texas state standards (TEKS).
- Maintaining emotional control under stress.
- Frequent standing, stooping, bending, and lifting (e.g., in a classroom setting).
