To provide students with an appropriate, high-quality education in English language arts and literature that complies with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and district standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction: Develop and implement lesson plans that meet the district's curriculum requirements, focusing on reading, writing, speaking, and listening. 
Literacy Focus: Teach literature analysis, composition, grammar, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills. 
Assessment: Administer tests and assessments (both formative and summative) to evaluate student progress and maintain accurate records.

Classroom Management: Create a positive, safe, and orderly classroom environment conducive to learning.

Student Support: Work with individual students to provide extra help or specialized instruction for those with special needs, including English Learners (EL) and gifted students.

Collaboration: Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and department meetings to analyze data and improve curriculum.

Communication: Maintain regular communication with parents regarding student performance, including report cards and conferences.
  • Certification: Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for English Language Arts and Reading (ELAR) at the appropriate level.
  • ESL Certification: Often required or preferred to support diverse learners in compliance with state regulations.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
  • Knowledge: Deep understanding of subject matter (literature, composition, language arts) and familiarity with Texas state standards (TEKS).

  • Frequent standing, stooping, bending, and lifting (e.g., in a classroom setting).
"Retirees of the Texas Teachers Retirement System (TRS) may apply.  Selected applicants are responsible for reimbursing the district, through payroll deduction, for the current rate of all TRS pension or TRS Care surcharges.  As of September 1, 2025, the TRS pension surcharge rate is 16.5%, and the TRS Care surcharge is $535/month."
