SPED Support Staff/Instructional Aide 2025-26 School Year
Assists special education teachers in reinforcing instruction, providing behavioral support, and preparing materials, all while working under the guidance of the teacher and principal to support students with special needs.
Instructional Support: Assisting with instruction, helping implement lesson plans, reinforcing concepts, and providing instruction to individual students or small groups. Preparing materials to assist in preparing and organizing instructional materials, classroom displays, and equipment.
Implementing IEPs: Aides help implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans, working closely with the teacher to ensure students' needs are met.
Supporting students with disabilities: Provide assistance with activities, tasks, and transitions, ensuring students are able to participate fully in the classroom.
Monitoring student progress: Observe and monitor student progress, providing feedback to the teacher and documenting student behavior and learning.
Working with students on life skills: May assist students with developing self-help skills, such as hygiene, dressing, and toileting.
Behavioral Support: Maintaining a positive learning environment helps create a positive and supportive classroom environment where students feel safe and comfortable.
Providing behavior support: assist with implementing behavior management strategies and de-escalating challenging behaviors.
Supervising students: May supervise students during transitions, breaks, and other activities, ensuring their safety and well-being.
Administrative Support: Maintaining records assists with maintaining student records, attendance records, and other administrative tasks.
Communicating with parents: May assist with communicating with parents regarding student progress and behavior.
Participating in training: Participate in professional development and training related to special education and best practices.
Assisting with substitute teachers: May provide assistance to substitute teachers.
