  • High School Special Education Aide

    Primary Purpose:
    Help special education teacher provide for physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in special education setting. Assist in implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instruction programs. Work under general supervision of principal and immediate direction of certified teacher.

    Qualifications:
    Education/Certification:
    High school diploma or GED
    Valid Texas educational aide certificate
    Special Knowledge/Skills:
    Ability to work with children with disabilities
    Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
    Ability to communicate effectively
    Knowledge of general office equipment
    Experience:
    Some experience working with children

    Major Responsibilities and Duties:
    Instructional Support
    1. Help teacher prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
    2. Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
    3. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
    4. Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
    5. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
    Student Management
    1. Assist students with physical disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning.
    2. Assist students with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
    3. Help manage behavior of students. This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed.
    4. Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
    5. Work with individual students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by teacher.
    6. Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
    7. Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
    Other
    1. Maintain confidentiality.
    2. Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
    Supervisory Responsibilities:
    None.

    Equipment Used:
    Wheelchair lift, ramp, personal computer, copier, and audiovisual equipment.

    Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; regular heavy lifting of students. Biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.

  • Adult Education Administrative Assistant

     Reports to:      Mr. Bill Parten, Adult Education Director                                                                
     Dept./School:  Adult Education/GED

    Primary Purpose:

    Ensure efficient operation of Adult Education administrative office and provide clerical services for Adult Education students & staff.

    Qualifications:

    Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED   Special Knowledge/Skills: Proficient word processing and file maintenance skills Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to use personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets, databases, and do word processing Knowledge of basic accounting principles   Experience: One to three years secretarial experience, preferably in public education environment  

    Major Responsibilities and Duties:

    Records, Reports, and Correspondence

    1.  Prepare written correspondence, forms, schedules, or reports using personal computer.
    2.  Prepare instructional materials, meeting agendas, honor rolls, graduation lists, and campus communication as requested. 
    3.  Maintain Adult Ed calendar of events.

    Reception and Phones

    4.  Schedule meetings and appointments and maintain calendar for Director.
    5.  Assist students, teachers, and parents as needed.
    6.  Receive incoming calls, take reliable messages, and route to appropriate staff.

    Files

    7.  Maintain physical and computerized files including mailing lists, student records, visitor logs, and office communication.
    8.  Update handbooks, policy manuals, and other documents as assigned.

    Accounting and Inventory

    9.  Perform routine bookkeeping tasks including simple arithmetic operations to maintain campus budget records.
    10.  Prepare and process purchase orders.

    11.  Receive, store, and issue supplies and equipment.
    12.  Assist with coordination of faculty meetings and activities.
    13.  Maintain inventory of fixed assets, equipment, and supplies.

    Other
    14.  Sort, distribute, or deliver mail and other documents.

    15.  Maintain confidentiality.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Assist Adult Education Director with overseeing daily operations.

    Equipment Used:

    Personal computer and peripherals, copier, fax machine, and calculator.

  • Bilingual Teacher

    ROLE AND PURPOSE:  Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.  Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

    At least one year student teaching or approved internship 

    Instructional Strategies
    • Development and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. 
    • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
    • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
    • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
    • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
    • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plan (IEP).
    • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
    • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
    • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.

    Student Growth and Development

    • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.

  • Custodian- Sub

    ROLE AND PURPOSE:  Follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds. 

     MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
    Cleaning
    • Maintain a cleaning schedule that will include cleaning of floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms.
    • Keep school building and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas, neat, clean, and free from trash i.e. paper, bottles.  Custodial staff is responsible for picking up paper on campus proper.
    • Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash.
    • Assist in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and request additional supplies as needed.
      Maintenance and Repair
    • Assist with lunchroom set up, including arranging tables and chairs.
    • Perform preventive maintenance to ensure the comfort, health, and safety of students and staff. 
    • Monitor heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide appropriate temperatures and ensure economical usage of fuel, water, electricity if possible.
    • Make minor building repairs as needed and report major repair needs to principal.
    • Move furniture or equipment within building as directed by principal.
    • Assist in setting up facilities for special events.  Ensure that restrooms are clean and have necessary supplies.  Make sure that doors are unlocked.
      Safety
    • Assist with opening and closing building each school day.
    • Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.
    • Check daily to ensure that all exit doors are kept closed and all panic bolts are working properly during hours of building occupancy.
    • Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.
    • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
    • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
    • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
      Equipment Used:
    • Buffer, stripper, wet and dry vacuum cleaner, electric drill, hand tools, shampooer.

     WORKING CONDITIONS:
    Mental Demands/Physical/Environmental Factors: Frequent walking, standing, climbing, and heavy lifting and carrying.  Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, and ladders.  Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials.
